We occasionally have customers call in asking for switches that will work in an application with DC voltage. Our automatic reset snapdisc switches work just fine in a DC application, but we wanted to test our epoxy sealed thermostat switches with DC voltage. Unlike our automatic reset switches, our epoxy sealed thermostat switches are not UL rate for DC voltage. However, they do still work in a DC application.
One of our engineers recently did some DC cycle testing on a 2570 switch. The testing is still in progress, but so far the switch has gone through around 139,000 cycles and is still working just fine. We have been testing a 2570L334-227 switch at 13VDC and 12.2 amps, though any switch in our 2570 and 431 family should perform similarly. Our cycle test is still in progress, so we’re curious to see just how many cycles the switch can go through before it starts to fail.
Our epoxy sealed thermostat switches are UL rated for 100,000 cycles 15 Amps at 120VAC / 10 Amps at 240VAC, and 0.5 Amps at 24VDC.
We’ll make sure to share results of future tests. We pride ourselves in building quality components, but it never hurts to put those claims to the test.
